Frequently asked questions

Where does the data come from?

Only official government sources: state and city open-data portals (data.wa.gov, data.oregon.gov, NYC Open Data, data.colorado.gov, data.texas.gov, data.ct.gov) and the California ABC daily bulk export. Each list page names the dataset, its license and our modifications. See Sources.

Is it legal to use and resell this data?

Every source we use is published as public domain or under open-data terms without use restrictions; the exact license quotes are on the Sources page. You are responsible for how you contact businesses: follow the TCPA, the Do Not Call Registry, CAN-SPAM and state solicitation rules.

What do I get each week?

Every Monday you receive a CSV for each list on your plan containing all records in that list’s current window (for example, policies expiring in the next 30 days), with every column the source publishes.

Why pay if the source data is public?

You are paying for the work: joining multiple datasets, removing already-renewed policies, de-duplicating to one row per business, adding counties and plain-English types, excluding person-level records, and delivering it on schedule with no API or spreadsheet work.

Does an expiration date mean the business is uninsured?

No. The date is the latest one on file with the agency. Many businesses renew on time; some file late. Treat the list as a renewal-timing signal, not proof of a lapse.

Are there emails in the data?

No. Sources publish business names, addresses and, for some lists, phone numbers. We never guess or append emails.

Do you include personal information?

The lists are business records. We exclude person-level registrations where the source has them, omit mailing addresses on some lists, and our public pages and free samples show business-level fields only. If you believe a record about you should be removed, email us.

How do I cancel?

Cancel anytime from the Stripe customer portal (sign in with the email you subscribed with), or email us. You keep access through the end of the paid month.

Can I get a custom cut (one county, one industry)?

Yes: filter the CSV yourself, or email us for a custom filtered pull.

Can I check or monitor a specific contractor?

Yes. Check a contractor shows the license, insurance carrier and expiry, and bond on file for WA, OR and NYC businesses. Ledgerline Watch turns a list of contractors into calendar, RSS and CSV feeds: free for up to 10, $39/month for up to 300.

Why don’t you cover my state?

We only publish states whose source data is officially open with clear terms. Email us which state you need and we will check its terms.
